Why Study English?

For Personal Enrichment
English literature classes give you the opportunity to study some of the words and ideas that have shaped our world, to encounter texts that have often endured for centuries.  Studying English literature allows you to engage in a conversation with some of the most fascinating minds and personalities of all time (not to mention some pretty interesting classmates and instructors).

For Academic and Professional Success
Taking literature courses is one of the best ways to improve your communication and analytical skills – skills crucial to success in a wide range of both studies and professions.  Interested in a career in Law?  Psychology?  Social Work?  Business?  Education?  Or are you unsure about your career plans, but want as successful and flexible an academic foundation as possible? Majoring in English will give you the skills you need to succeed in many different disciplines.
