Join me for a small, informal discussion group! I'm a nature writer and a lover of stories and essays and poetry about wilderness. Philosophy, humor, suspense, lyrical beauty, personal revelations--nature writing can be what you will. In this group of 4-6 people, I pick out readings from among my favorites to meet the interests of those who come. In the past, we've read
classic and contemporary American tales by writers like Mary Oliver, Henry David Thoreau, Edward Abbey, Terry Tempest Williams, Jack Kerouac, Annie Dillard, and John Muir. I've also organized optional weekend hikes on Mount Tamalpais, the Marin Headlands, and even the secret backyard of City College for those interested.
Feel free to take a look at my blog of book reviews, "Anna Mills on Nature Writing" for more about my writing and taste in books.
