CCSF policy regarding grade concerns
CCSF policy states that all students have to be graded by the same criteria, and I adhere to this policy. If you believe that you deserve a grade other than what you were given, the College suggests that as a first step you try to resolve the problem with the instructor, and make sure that both of us understand one another's concerns. If the problem can't get resolved, City College has a Grade Review Committee which will hear your concerns. The Office of Student Advocacy can help you in this process.
The instructor will agree to any recommendation made by the Grade Review Committee.
Can I see my final exam?
You can can review your exam in my office. I am only on campus when school is in session during the spring and fall. My office hours will be posted on this website and outside the office.
How was the final average derived?
The final average was calculated as described in the syllabus.
My grade was close to the borderline between grades. Can't you just bump me up?
Grades were assigned as stated on the syllabus: 90-100% A; 80-89% B; 70-79% C; 60-69% D; <60% F.
It is the nature of grades that lines have to be drawn somewhere, and at the start of the class you were informed where those lines were. It's inevitable that some students will be close to the borderline, no matter where it was drawn, but to be fair, those dividing lines will be honored.
I am sympathetic to the frustration you may feel if you were close to the borderline. Nonetheless, it was your responsibility to secure the grade you wanted. Please don't ask me to change your grade for this reason; I'm rigid on this policy.
But I have to get a B in order to get into nursing school (or anywhere else)!
Sorry. People get the grades that they earn, regardless of other circumstances.
