Italian 2A – Continuation of Elementary Italian
Fall 2010

Objectives: The main purpose of the course is to provide students with basic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in Italian language. Moreover, the course will promote students’ acquaintance with Italian culture and students’ exploration of cultural similarities and variations between Italy and the U. S. Students will learn the language with an emphasis on communicative and interactive classroom activity.
Textbook & materials: Avanti! Beginning Italian by Aski and Musumeci
Content: Italian 2A covers chapter 9 through chapter 12. The audiofiles for the course are available for listening at CCSF Language Lab. Students are required to attend at least two hours per week the language lab. Attendance cards should be submitted to the instructor to verify attendance.
Grades: The final grade will be based on participation in the classrooms and attendance in the language lab (40%), quizzes, Midterm Exam, and completion of written and oral assignments (30%), and the Final Exam (30%).
90% -100% A 80% - 89% B 70% - 79% C 60% - 69% D 0 - 60% F
Quizzes and Exams: There will be 2 quizzes and a Final Exam. If you miss a quiz, you will be required to make it up the first time you attend class again. The Final Exam will be comprehensive and will cover all the material studied in the course. Quiz 1: September 28, Quiz 2: November 16, Final Exam: December 7, 2010

(3) Click on Italian Language. (4) Click on Avanti. (5) Enter the user name (italian) and the password (ccsf) – all lower case
Certificate of Completion The Certificate of Completion in Italian provides students, prospective employers and others with documented evidence of persistence and academic accomplishment in the language. The certificate requires completion of 15 units in Italian. Each course must be completed with a final grade of C or higher or Credit. At least 9 units must be selected from the core list. The remaining 6 units may be selected from the elective units.
Requirements: Attendance is required, absences over six class hours are considered excessive. It is the students’ responsibility to drop the class if they decide to discontinue
