Marketing Research may be defined as the gathering, processing, reporting and interpreting of marketing information.
The first step in marketing research is to define precisely the informational requirements of the decision to be made.
The second step is gathering the necessary information (primary or secondary data).
The third step is to interpret the information you have gathered.
Your assignment includes three parts:
Part I. Define what information you are looking for to make a decision about your (future) business. This could be done in a paragraph.
Part II. Do some form of market research. Either secondary or primary. In either case you need to use at least 10 different sources to gather your information. If you choose to undertake secondary research, list the sources you used. Tell me what the source was (e.g. name of book or journal, yellow pages, industry guide, web page, etc.) and tell me where you found the source (e.g. City College Library, internet, etc.). If you are doing primary research, you need to gather data from at least 10 different sources (e.g. interview at least 10 people who may have the information for which you are looking). Please include the questionnaire or survey form you used.
Part III. Interpret the information you have gathered. What do you now know about your market (competition, customers, industry, etc.)? This assignment is due on October 4, 2004.
