This course covers audio podcasting only! It will be offered using the new CCSF course management system Insight/Moodle. Online Course Information: The online course management system will email you the course login information (username and password) typically the day before the course begins. You will receive this email at the email address you provided to CCSF when you registered. If this is not accurate, please update your information. The course content will not be available before the offical start date of class. After the course start date, I will release new content each week, with assignments due at the end of each week. Be focused and diligent and you should have a successful outcome in the course. This is not a self-paced course. You will begin on 1/19/2009 and end on 2/27/2009. This is 6-weeks. Enrollment: The online registration system has a built-in waiting list feature. This has been turned on for this class with a maximum waiting list of 10 students. If you are on the waiting list and a spot opens before the semester begins, you will be notified automatically, (at the email address you include with your registration info) and invited to join the class. If there are students on the waiting list after the first day of class, I will try clear up my roster and make room if possible. I will contact you via email after the first day of class should space become available. Orientation: The orientation for this course is online as content for you to read during Week One of the course. You are not required to come to campus for this course. History of podcast technology and its impact on traditional broadcast media.
Textbook: Podcast Solutions, The Complete Guide to Audio and Video Podcasting, (second edition) by Michael W. Geoghegan and Dan Klass, 2007 System Requirements: We'll be dowloading and installing the *free* Audacity audio editing application as part of this course. Please make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for running Audacity (Windows requirements or Mac requirements). Audio Recording Requirements: You will also need some method to record audio and get it into your computer. You can use an internal microphone on your computer, a simple and cheap USB headset microphone available from any store that sells electronics, or, if you already have a nice recording set-up - you can use that. Moodle/Insight Login information The site is located at: http://insight.ccsf.edu Enter your username and password and then choose Podcasting to see the course content. Participation: This is a short-term course, lasting six weeks which occurs entirely online. You do not need to come to campus to successfully complete this course. It is not self-paced. Course content will be released weekly, with assignments due at the end of each week. You are required to actively participate in the course discussion boards. Grading: Five weekly assignments are the heart of this course. In order to successfully complete this course you will need to stay up-to-date with the homework. Homework submitted late will receive a 10% grade deduction. Late assignments are only accepted for 1 week after the due date. Everything is due by the last day of the course as noted above. By the end of this course you should have a working podcast channel, with at least two audio episodes. The homework grading is as follows:
