What you are required to do in CNIT 100 each week
Important Homework information:
- Start every week by reading the Insight class homepage, then scroll down
to the current week's section and read the week's task list. You
should do all tasks in the task list by the due date.
- You must log in to the class at least once a week, but I recommend
at least 3 times a week.
- You must check your official CCSF student email account at least once a week.
You will receive important announcements there.
-
When is homework
due? You can find the due date in the Schedule, or in the top
section of the Insight class. Here's an example: Week 1: January 17 -
27,
2010
(The due date is the last day of the week)
Note that each week has its own section, and in that section
the date will
show the last day of the week as Thursday. However, homework is due the
next day, Friday at 11:55pm PST. Usually there is a 2 day grace period and
homework can be turned in through Sunday night, and if there's a holiday, that
due date will be at the top of the class home page. The final exam may
not be taken late and there is no grace period.
- Weekly Tasks: A detailed description of weekly homework tasks can be
found in the week's task list in the section for the week.
I suggest you print this out!
Read and print the task list for the week. Pay
particular attention to the week's task list. Some weeks there might be
chapters to read, a quiz or test, a graded forum, a myitlab assignment or a
document to turn in - do everything required for the week. All work must be
completed by the due date, or if there's a grace period, by the end of that
period.
Every week
you are required to read the online Course Content book. It
contains a summary of the week's material, links to online tutorials, and
other useful information. Some weeks there is only a one page chapter summary,
not a complete book.
Turning in assignments: If
there's something to turn in (true in some but not all weeks) use the
upload assignment activity in the week's section (Assignments are also available in
the Activities block).
Important: Check your official
CCSF student email (@mail.ccsf.edu) every week. There is a link on the Insight
login page to your student email account, also at www.ccsf.edu. You'll be receiving important messages from the
school and your instructor there.
Participation:
You are expected to read all the forum postings every week. Pay particular attention to "Instructor Announcements"
because I leave important announcements there. You also need to be present
in our online "classroom" by posting to a forum at least 3 times a month.
Participation is part of your grade. Some forum assignments
are graded. If so, this will be described in the week's task list.
MyITLab Office 2007 homework:
- Every student must purchase his/her own access code and create their
own myitlab login account.
- The myitlab homework is based on a chapter in the
GO! Office 2007 textbook, which is available inside myitlab. It
will teach you how to use Microsoft Office 2007 programs such as Word,
Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
- Read the Insight online Course Content book for the week. It
will have important information about your homework.
- Optional: Follow the assigned chapter tutorial in
GO! Office 2007 E-Book in myitlab. You would
learn a lot more in this book.
- Take the myitlab trainings for the week's chapter.
- Take the myitlab practice tests for the week's chapter - this
doesn't count, but will prepare you for the graded test.
- Take the myitlab Graded test for the week's chapter. This
score will be transferred into Insight on the Monday or Tuesday following the due
date.
Chapter
homework in the Computer Concepts Textbook:
- Read the assigned chapter in your textbook, GO! Technology in
Action.
-
In Insight, read the online
Course Content book or chapter summary for the
assigned chapter.
-
Chapter Quizzes: Every
week we cover a textbook chapter, there is a chapter quiz. All chapter
quizzes (also tests) are open book, but timed, so you don't have time to
look up all the answers. Be sure to study for them! You can take each
chapter's quiz 3 times only, and the highest score counts towards
your grade. (There is also a practice quiz, but its score doesn't
count. This is to help you prepare for the chapter quiz.)
-
Some weeks you must also turn in a file to the
upload assignment in
the week's section, or make a post to a graded forum
.
