Contemplating the fact that teachers are not only underpaid, but also underappreciated, I wanted to recognize at least one person who has earned the respect, and yes even admiration, of the students. To help me narrow the field, my students voted on their favorite PE teacher at CCSF (excluding me, since it would defeat the purpose of making someone else feel good).

This semester's winners are . . .
Kathe Burrick and Mitchell Palacio

Other instructors recognized by the students include Lynne Atkinson, Peg Grady, Tanako Hagiwara, Willie Hector, Neil Laughlin, Doug Owyang, Mitchell Palacio, Alicia Pierce, and Gail Stepanek.

Some Student Comments

  • Kathe Burrick
Made sure the class continued in spite of personal difficulties.
  • Tanako Hagiwara
Fun, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly, flexible, & positive, gives a lot of encouragement.
  • Neil Laughlin
He doesn't sit and read Sports Illustrated or the newspaper. He actually provides instruction and input to the students.
  • Mitchell Palacio
Knowledge of subject, interest in students.
  • Gail Stepanek
Very positive and encourages students to excel.
