American Crocodile (Crocodylus acutus)
Biting its own tail, a rare phenomenon more often seen in snakes where it enters into mythology as the "Ouroboros." Here in the Tárcoles River, dozens of these Crocodiles frequent bridge crossings where they are fed daily. They grow up to 16 feet or more and are a popular tourist attraction. This species is listed as "vulnerable" by IUCN, recovering slowly from its earlier status as "endangered." Canon PowerShot SX50 HS
