For reference, a nice photo of a Gray Flycatcher showing very similar proportions, structure, and patterning to the mystery bird is at -

The mystery bird seems much more worn and faded, which may account for some of its paler brownish tones, at least in part. To speculate a little, perhaps it is aberrant in the sense that it's unhealthy or malnourished, causing abnormal plumage problems.
