COURSE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Instructor Contact Information:

You can contact me at christine.wong-mineta@mail.ccsf.edu prior to the online course starting.  After the course has begun, please contact me through Insight/Moodle eMail List within this course.  Email through Insight/Moodle is the best way to get a hold of me.

Mandatory Orientation:

You must attend one of the two mandatory introductory orientations which will be held on: Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm in the Multi-Use Building, Rm. 361 and Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 9:00am to 11:00am in the Rosenberg Library, Rm. 414 (located on the Ocean Campus).

Failure to attend one of these mandatory introductory orientations will result in the loss of your seat in class.  You will be dropped.  Therefore, please make arrangements now to be able to attend one of the orientations.  Sorry, no exceptions will be made.

During the orientation, you will become acquainted with the Insight/Moodle system.  This will also be an opportunity to meet the Instructor and fellow students in the course, as well as have any questions you may have about the course answered.  You will also be asked to produce an in-person writing sample during this orientation (you do not have to prepare for this).  Again, attending one of the two orientations is the only way to secure your spot in this class.  You will need to attend this orientation even if you have previously taken online courses.  This will be the only on-campus session for this course.

Course Information:

This course is a fully online course.  Please review the information at the Distance Education website to check your readiness to succeed in an online course: http://www.ccsf.edu/Departments/Distance_Education/

You may also want to visit http://www.ccsf.edu/Departments/Distance_Education/students.htm to prepare for learning online.  Here you will find information on:

  • minimum hardware and software requirements
  • FAQs about distance learning
  • links to DPSP and CCSF resources
  • a short self evaluation for being an online student

Health 53- Online will become "live" in Insight on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, (the first day of classes for Spring 2011 Semester).  There will be new content available for your viewing each week on Mondays by 10:00 a.m.  Assignments are generally due by 11:55pm (Pacific Standard Time) one week after they have been announced, unless otherwise indicated.

Please log into the course for the first time no later than Sunday, January 30, 2011.  If you haven't logged in by then, you will be considered a "no show" and will be dropped from the course in order to allow room for other interested students. This class has a wait list.  If you are not able to register for one of the sections, check back frequently in case a spot opens up.  Please do not email me to sign up for the waitlist, instead follow proper registration procedures.

I will send an email to you the week before Spring 2011 classes start to introduce myself and remind you to log on to Insight and create a profile for yourself.  We will also review this during our Mandatory Introductory Orientation.

Special Accommodations:

Students who need academic accommodations should request them from the Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) located in the Rosenberg Library, Room 323 on the Ocean Campus.  They can be reached at (415) 452-5481 (V) or (415) 452-5451 (TDD).  DSPS is the campus office responsible for verifying disability-related need for academic accommodations, assessing that need, and planning accommodations in cooperation with students and instructors as needed and consistent with course requirements.

I look forward to having you join the course!
