Course Description |
An introduction to the biology, ecology, and evolution of invertebrate and vertebrate animals. Course format consists of lectures and laboratories and includes fetal pig dissection and field trips to the Academy of Sciences, SF Zoo, and Cow Palace. This 4-unit lab course is intended for students not majoring in the biological sicences and is not recommended for ESL students. |

Course Requirements |
4 exams (100-120 points each). Lab assignments (10-50 points each). Total approx. 700 points. |

Laboratories |
Attendance and active participation are required during every lab assignment since substitute or make-up lab reports are not permitted. All lab reports are due by the following week; late reports will be accepted only for half-credit for one additional week. Only standard 8-1/2 x 11 inch paper and dark (not red) ink or pencil should be used for class assignments. |

Exams |
Exams include multiple-choice, matching, short-answer, essay, and practical questions, and are generally scheduled for ninety minutes. No electronic devices (including translators) or dictionaries are permitted during exams.Only one exam may be made-up for a legitimate medical or legal emergency if accompanied by official verifiable docu men tation; the make-up for this exam must be scheduled for the first class upon your return. |

Grading |
Grades are based on the total points accumulated: 90% A, 80% B, 70% C, and 60% D. |
|
Attendance |
Students will be dropped from the course if they are absent from more than four classes (equivalent to 12 hours). Students who habitually arrive to class more than ten minutes late or leave class early will be charged an absence for each incidence. |
|
Student Conduct |
Any student cheating during an exam or copying from another student's lab will be suspended from class and penalized twice the points available. Any student using any telecommunication device in the classroom will be dismissed from class and penalized with an absence. |
