Dr. Doug Orr  received his BA from Columbia University and his MA and Ph.D. from the University of Colorado.  He came to CCSF in the Fall 2008.  Prior to that he was a Professor of Economics at Eastern Washington University and has been teaching Economics since 1982.

His areas of specialization are Labor economics, Urban and Regional economics and Environmental economics.  His area of research for the past ten years has been on pensions and Social Security, and he has published articles in national and international journals.  One of those articles, published 9 years ago, predicted that large corporations would start to use bankruptcy as a method to default on their pension promises.  Unfortunately, he was correct, and the steel and airline industries have now followed this path.
