The CS 131A Wait List

The CS 131A wait list

1 Registration

During the registraion period (April 9 to June 9), the CCSF Registrar handles all aspects of enrollment, including managing the wait list. If the wait list is full, your best bet for getting into the course is to keep trying to get your name on the wait list. Do not be deterred if the wait list is full — openings occur frequently in the weeks leading up to the beginning of the semester as registered students change their schedules and cancel their registration. Check back regularly on the chance that an opening will be available to you.

If You Have Questions

  • If you have questions about your personal registration process, contact the CCSF Registrar.
  • If you have questions about the official CCSF wait list document, please read the CCSF Wait List FAQ.

2 The Registrar’s Official Wait list

If your name is on the Registrar’s wait list and an opening becomes available, you will receive an email notifying you that you can register for the course. You have 48 hours from the time the email is sent to register. If you fail to complete registration within that time, you will be removed from the wait list and your spot given to the next person on the list.

For more information about the rules of the CCSF wait list, read the Wait List FAQ.

3 Add Codes

There are no add codes available during the registration period. Starting the first day of the Summer session (June 11), the Registrar makes add codes available to instructors. I can then offer add codes to the students on the Registrar’s official wait list. If there are any openings remaining, I offer the remaining add codes to students on my provisional no-guarantees list in the order that I received their request to join the class. I try to add as many students as possible, but there are restrictions on how many students I’m allowed to have in the course.

4 Other Options

I recommend that everyone not on the Registrar’s official wait list have a Plan B. Consider registering for Python in the Fall semester, which starts August 18. Registration begins May 2 and courses fill fast, so register at your earliest opportunity.

Good luck!

5 The Provisional No-guarantees Unofficial Wait List

When students contact me about getting into a packed course, I add their names to my provisional no-guarantees wait list. If openings become available as students drop the course in the first week of the semester, I can offer add codes to those on my no-guarantees list between June 11-18.

BTW, no-guarantees means that having your name on the provisional, unofficial list does not in any way guarantee or entitle anyone on the list to a spot in the course. However, by being on the list, students do at have a shot at getting in to the course on the course if there are vacancies in the first week.

6 Add Code FAQ

  1. I’m on the unofficial, no-guarantees wait list. What are my chances of getting an add code?

Answer: it depends on how many students drop the course in the first week of the course (Jun 11-18).

  2. When do I get my add code?

Answer: If you do get an add code (see the previous question) it will be between June 11 and June 18; June 11 is the first day that add codes can be used to register. June 18 is the last day to register for the Summer session.
