Introductory Comments: My mother's family was and still is, and she was, from New Orleans. And it's a great city. There's no place like it. Maybe Monchengladbach's a little like it. But they do some things well, like food and music and things like that; but construction--they're not good at. Anyway, this is a song they had about a flood in 1927.
What has happened down here is the wind have changed, Clouds (1) in from the north and it started to rain Rained real (2) and rained for a real (3) time, Six (4) of water in the streets of Evangeline. ........................................................ The river (5) all day The (6) all night Some people got (7) in the flood Some people got (8) alright The river have busted through clear down to Plaquemines Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline. ........................................................ CHORUS Louisiana, Louisiana They're tryin' to wash us away They're tryin' to wash us away Louisiana, Louisiana They're tryin' to wash us away They're tryin' to wash us away ........................................................ President Coolidge come down in a railroad train With a little fat man with a (9) in his hand The President say, "Little fat man isn't it a (10) what the river has done to this poor crackers land."
