  Global IME for viewing Chinese characters
 

If your computer is not displaying Chinese characters, you will need to download and install Global IME. To download, go to: http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/iebuild/ime5_win32/en/ime5_win32.htm

Choose Microsoft Global IME 5.02 for Chinese (Simplified)
Then click "Next" and the program should begin downloading.

 Note: If you are using Windows 2000, you do not need to download anything but you 
  will need to install the Chinese Language Pack (Simplified) from your system CDROM.


After installation, in order to view web pages in Chinese, there is one more step you will need to take:

Open Internet Explorer. From the Menu, choose View => Encoding => More. Then choose Chinese Simplified (GB 18030).

  Pinyin Fonts for Windows
 
In order to view or use certain special characters which are equivalent to Pinyin fonts with tone marks, you need to install this from your operating system CD.

Pinyin fonts are also available at: http://icg.harvard.edu/~pinyin/Fonts.html.  Click on the link to download Pinyin fonts that can be used in Microsoft Word. After the fonts are downloaded, they will need to be installed before they can be used.

If you want to view websites in Chinese or send email in Chinese, you may need this software. A 30-day trial version is available. To download, go to: http://www.njstar.com
  NJ Star Word Processor
 
This software allows you to create documents in Chinese. A 30-day trial version is available. To download, go to: http://www.njstar.com
  Media Player

For better results when accessing sound files on this website, you should use Media Player. This software is free and can be downloaded from http://windowsmedia.com/download/download.asp

  Adobe Acrobat
 

To use the Glossary in WebCT, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. This software is free and can be downloaded from Adobe's web site.
