Little Wattlebird (Anthochaera chrysoptera chrysoptera) 23 July 2014. Point Cook Coastal Park, Point Cook, VIC, Australia

Despite its name, this honeyeater has no wattles, nor is it really little; although it is smaller than other wattlebird species. It seemed to be less common than the ubiquitous Red Wattlebirds in this area. Little Wattlebird is endemic to southeastern Australia.

Clements originally used the English name "Brush Wattlebird" for this species until changing it to Little Wattlebird in a 2010 revision of their 6th edition. Prior to that, Clements used Little Wattlebird for A. lunulata now called Western Wattlebird. The confusion in English names stems from an earlier time when the Western and Little Wattlebirds were lumped under the name Little Wattlebird. Three races are currently recognized. A. c. chrysoptera is the paler, widespread mainland race.
