Red Howler Monkey (Alouatta seniculus)
Adults with young. This is presumably A. s. juara based on distribution, but taxonomy is debated. The Red Howler is said to have the largest hyoid (tongue) bone of any species. This bone helps amplify their distinctive howls. It is reported that Red Howlers do not like rain and will howl in protest to rainstorms as they sit hunched over in trees. They thus remind me of King Lear who howls at the weather, "Blow, winds, and crack your cheeks! rage! blow! You cataracts and hurricanoes, spout!" Canon PowerShot SX60 HS.
