Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna) 23 November 2012 at Half Moon Bay, San Mateo, CA Photo © 2012 Joseph Morlan

I took an excellent Photoshop class offered by Bob Steele as part of the Central Valley Birding Symposium last week. Bob extolled the virtues of RAW format. Normally I shoot JPG, but there are significant advantages to RAW. So here is one of my first attempts at shooting RAW. The bird was perched in deep shade at considerable distance and was showing a more magenta (less red) iridescence than usual. Here I used Aperture Priority at f2.0; 1/250 sec; spot metering. Digiscoped with Panasonic DMC-LX5 | Nikon FieldScope III | 30XWA | hand-held (no adapter).
