Crowned Slaty Flycatcher (Empidonomus aurantioatrocristatus aurantioatrocristatus) 18 February 2015. Ceibas, Entre Ríos, Argentina

This highly migratory species was formerly placed in the monotypic genus Griseotyrannus. Clements, AOU and SACC have moved it back to Empidonomus based on its close relationship with the Variegated Flycatcher (E. varius). However HBW, IOC and Howard & Moore retain it in Griseotyrannus based on its unique syringial structure. Either way it has the dubious distinction of having the longest scientific name of any bird. Two subspecies are recognized. This is the nominate race. A smaller, paler subspecies is resident in Eastern Brazil. Formerly endemic to South America, vagrants have reached Louisiana and Panama.
