Rufous Hornero (Furnarius rufus rufus) 16 February 2015. Jardin Botanico, Montevideo, Uruguay

This is the National Bird of Argentina. It is one of the more common and conspicuous birds in eastern South America especially in settled areas. Like other members of the ovenbird family (Furnariidae) they build large domed mud nests which, in subsequent years are frequently appropriated by other species such as the Saffron Finch. Four or five subspecies are recognized. This is the largest and palest nominate race.
