Spectacled Tyrant (Hymenops perspicillatus perspicillatus) 16 February 2015. Montevideo, Uruguay
The striking yellowish-white eyering is swollen orbital skin, not feathers. Large white wing patches are concealed when perched but flash conspicuously in flight and in display. They are barely visible in this photo. This distinctive flycatcher is classified in its own genus Hymenops. This is a female. Males are all black with white wings. Photos of male.
