Gray Goshawk (Accipiter novaehollandiae) 25 July 2014. Mission Beach, QLD, Australia

This uncommon species is endemic to eastern and northern Australia. It is reportedly declining. In the southern part of its range it is considered threatened. Total world population is estimated at fewer than 10,000 birds. This species occurs in both a gray morph such as this, and an all white morph. The species is often spelled Grey Goshawk (e.g. IOC) following British usage. Some authors (e.g. Sibley and Monroe, HBW) lump this species with the Variable Goshawk (Accipiter hiogaster) of Indonesia.
