Pacific Black Duck (Anas superciliosa rogersi) 18 July 2014. Nepean Weir, Penrith , NSW, Australia
![]() Pacific Black Ducks hybridize readily with introduced Mallards. In New Zealand such hybridization seriously threatens the native population, but in Australia the number of hybrids reported so far appears to be minimal. Three poorly differentiated subspecies are currently recognized (Clements) but HBW treats the species as monotypic. This common Australasian duck was formerly lumped with the Spot-billed Duck (Anas poecilorhyncha). Digiscoped with Panasonic DMC-LZ5 | Nikon FieldScope III | 30XWA | hand-held (no adapter) |
