Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica arctica) 28 August 2016. The Prong - pelagic waters south and southeast of Grand Manan, Charlotte County, New Brunswick, CA
These distinctive birds were fairly common having dispersed offshore away from breeding colonies. Most were still largely in breeding plumage. The species has recently been classified as "vulnerable" based on a declining trend and concern about the effects of climate change. The name "puffin" means "swollen" referring to their plump appearance. This is presumably the medium sized nominate race found in the Western Atlantic. Canon PowerShot SX50 HS.
