White-browed Purpletuft (Iodopleura isabellae isabellae) 6 August 2015. Rio Cristalino, Mato Grosso, BR

Named for the concealed tufts of purple feathers on the upper flanks of the male, this short-tailed canopy species was traditionally placed in the Cotinga family (Cotingidae) but recently moved to the Tityra Family (Tityridae SACC Proposal 313). This is the nominate race found in the Western Amazon. A darker more heavily marked race is found in Eastern Brazil.
