![]() ![]() I believe this is probably a male based on its more contrasting underwing pattern. With wings folded, they look like a dead leaf. This is an eruptive species. We are currently experiencing a major flight along the northern California coast with some individuals reportedly coming in off the ocean. The last major coast migration reported in Northern California was about 30 years ago. Spring migration is usually in the mountains. Earlier this year they were reportedly flying in the thousands at 7,000 feet in the Cascades (fide Richard Hubacek). Canon PowerShot SX50 HS. |
