Chilean Tinamou (Nothoprocta perdicaria perdicaria) 27 February 2018. Ruta Chacayes - Termas de Cauquenes, Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins, Chile.
![]() This shy bird remained partially hidden and never came out into the open. Its population has reportedly declined, especially in the northern part of its range where hunting, trapping and competition from introduced California Quail (Callipepla californica) have been blamed. Two subspecies of this secretive cryptic Chilean endemic are recognized. This is the paler and grayer northern nominate race. Canon PowerShot SX50 HS.
