Chimango Caracara (Milvago chimango temucoensis)
Note the scaly fringing to the wing coverts indicating a juvenile. This is one of two juveniles competing with Dolphin Gulls for fish scraps at the dock. This is the darker race M. c. temucoensis found in extreme southern South America. SACC Proposal 561 (Remsen et al. 2018) to move this species to the genus Phalcoboenus as proposed by Fuchs et al. (2012) and adopted by
Bierregaard et al. (2018) failed. Canon PowerShot SX50 HS.
