Macaroni Penguin (Eudyptes chrysolophus) 8 March 2018. Gold Harbour, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, GS
![]() This is a juvenile quite out of place in the midst of a large King Penguin colony. Note the head plumes are pale and much reduced, not meeting at the forehead. This species is classified as "vulnerable" by IUCN because of recent severe declines. However, they are still considered common on South Georgia which has the world's largest population of these penguins. Canon PowerShot SX50 HS. References: BirdLife International. 2017.
