Southern Boubou (Laniarius ferrugineus)

Southern Boubou (Laniarius ferrugineus)
This is a female. Males have a white throat. This bird was rather elusive, at least when I was around. It resembles the Southern Fiscal but behaves quite differently. The boubou (pronounced boo-boo) is a skulker in low vegetation while the fiscal tends to perch up in the open. This photo shows the pink blush on the underparts which helps confirm the identification. Fiscals are in the Shrike family (Laniidae) while boubous are in the Bushshrike family (Malaconotidae). Canon PowerShot SX50 HS.
