Yellow-rumped Siskin (Spinus uropygialis) 26 February 2018. Valle del Yeso, Región Metropolitana de Santiago, Chile.
This is a female. Note the faint olive wash on back, nape and face. Males and females are similar, but females average less black. This gregarious, acrobatic species ranges through the high Andes particularly in Chile where there are shrubs near water. In recent decades the New World Siskins have been moved from the genus Spinus to Carduelis to Sporagia and finally back to Spinus. See SACC Proposal 675 for details.
