Mossy Chiton (Mopalia muscosa) 17 August 2019. Pillar Point Harbor, San Mateo County, CA
![]() Chitons are primitive mollusks, some of which are virtually unchanged since the Devonian. Anybody know how to tell the front end from the back? The Woody Chiton (M. lignosa) also occurs in this area, but it has longer hairs on its "girdle" and the central plates are separated along the ridge. Panasonic Lumix LX5 |
