Brown-hooded Parrot (Pyrilia haematotis haematotis)
26 January 2009, Rancho Naturalista, Costa Rica
This was probably the most common Parrot in the area, but we mostly saw
them flying overhead, seldom landing.
Two races are recognized. This is the more northerly nominate subspecies.
The Eastern Panama race has a band of red on the lower throat and upper
chest.
Early authors placed this bird in the genus Eucinetus.
