Harlequin Duck (Histrionicus histrionicus pacificus) 25 November 2018. Coyote Point Recreation Area, San Mateo, California, USA.
![]() ![]() Continuing adult male showing well today for my ornithology class field trip. Records of this species at Coyote Point go back to 27 August 2002 when it was first noted by Ron Thorn. Over the years, a second bird has been seen there occasionally. BNA gives maximum confirmed life span for the Harlequin as 17 years with two others reaching 15 and 10 years of age. If our bird is the same individual as 2002 it would be getting very close to the longevity record. Digiscoped with Panasonic DMC-LX5 | Nikon FieldScope III | 30XWA | hand-held (no adapter).
