Chestnut Munia (Lonchura atricapilla jagori) 9 January 2020. Hokuala Golf Course (formerly Kauai
Lagoons Golf Course), Kauai County, Hawaii, USA.
![]() This species was previously known as the Chestnut or Black-headed Mannikin. Formerly lumped with Tricolored Munia (L. malacca), they were introduced in Hawaii in 1959 and are now established in all the main islands. The subspecies introduced in Hawaii appears to be L. a. jagori of the Philippine Islands, although the nominate race from India has also been reported. L. a. jagori is characterized by having a brownish crown and nape as seen here. Juveniles are similar to Scaly-breasted Munia but have a bluish rather than black bill. Canon PowerShot SX60 HS.
