White-rumped Shama (Copsychus malabaricus macrourus)
Formerly classified in the thrush family, they have been moved to the old-world flycatcher family. This species is native to India and Southeast Asia, but has been widely introduced elsewhere. This is a female. Males are shiny blue-black above with a much longer tail. They were initially introduced to Kauai in 1931 and Oahu in 1940, and have since spread naturally to Niihau, Molokai, and Lanai. Taxonomy is problematic. The birds introduced to Kauai were said to be the subspecies indicus, but that race is now merged with C. m. interposita by HBW, synonomized with C. m. macrourus by Clements/eBird., and IOC, but recognized as valid by H&M4. To make matters worse, HBW and H&M4 place this species in the genus Kittacincla while Clements/eBird and IOC retain it in Copsychus. Canon PowerShot SX60 HS.
