Himalayan Bulbul (Pycnonotus leucogenys) 18 February 2016. Ramnagar--Quality Inn, Nainital County, Uttarakhand, IN

This species is endemic to the Himalayas. It was formerly lumped with the White-eared Bulbul (Pycnonotus leucotis) under the name White-cheeked Bulbul. The two are similar but the latter has a less prominent crest and larger white cheek patch. White-eared replaces Himalayan in the lowlands of NW India and across Pakistan to parts of the Middle East. The two are said to hybridize freely in the Punjab region but the hybrid zone is reportedly small. Canon PowerShot SX50 HS..
