Mugger Crocodile (Crocodylus palustris) 13 February 2016. National Chambal Sanctuary, District Agra, Uttar Pradesh, IN

Endemic to the Indian subcontinent, the Mugger is the most common crocodile in India. However with a population estimated at only 3-5K in widely scattered localities it is listed as vulnerable. It has the broadest snout of any Crocodile, thus resembling an Alligator. Note the extra large 4th tooth confirming that it is a crocodile. They are said to put twigs and branches on their snout to lure birds searching for nesting material. Canon PowerShot SX50 HS
