Pallas's Fish-Eagle (Haliaeetus leucoryphus) 18 February 2016. Ramnagar--Quality Inn, Nainital County, Uttarakhand, IN

This is an adult. This impressive fish-eagle is a partial migrant with both breeding birds and winter visitors overlapping in northern India. It is listed as vulnerable with a total world population estimated at 2,500 to 10,000 adults and declining rapidly. Although it is widespread, it is rare throughout its range and its distribution is patchy. Main threats are persecution, habitat degradation and introduced water hyacinth (Eichhornia spp.) which makes prey hard to catch. Canon PowerShot SX50 HS.
