Spotted Dove (Streptopelia chinensis suratensis) 20 February 2016. Corbett NP, Garhwal County, Uttarakhand, IN

Birds in the Eastern part of their range (nominate and S. c. tigrina) differ in having whitish undertail coverts and black shaft streaks on their wing coverts. This is the Western type showing extensive pale buff spotting on its back and wing coverts. Both types are possible in this area. Plumage and vocalizations differ strongly between Eastern and Western populations and two separate species are recognized by HBW. Under their alternative taxonomy, this species becomes Western Spotted Dove (Spilopelia suratensis). Some authors place this bird and the Laughing Dove in the genus Spilopelia. Birds from the Eastern populations have been widely introduced around the world. Canon PowerShot SX50 HS
