Whiskered Yuhina (Yuhina flavicollis albicollis) 23 February 2016. Vinayak, Nainital County, Uttarakhand, IN

Note narrow pale collar characteristic of the race Y. f. albicollis found at the NW end of its Himalayan range. Other subspecies have the collar more extensively deep rufous. Some authors lump this species with the little known Burmese Yuhina (Yuhina humilis). Clements/eBird, IOC and H&M all classify the Yuhinas in the White-eye family (Zosteropidae) as advocated by Cibois et al. 2002 and Moyle et al. 2009. However HBW & OBC retain a more traditional classification including them with the Babblers (Timaliidae). The name "Yuhina" derives from the Nepalese name for these birds. Canon PowerShot SX50 HS.
