Barrow's Goldeneye (Bucephala islandica) 16 May 2017. Kokiak Island, Alaska
![]() This is a male. Even though breeding populations are widely separated, no geographic variation has been found. However the bill color in females apparently differs geographically with populations in Iceland having a dark band at the base of the bill while North American populations (both East and West) have an all yellow-orange bill during the non-breeding season.
