Goldcrest (Regulus regulus japonensis)
Named for its bright yellow crown, these jumpy conifer specialists seldom sit still for photos. Extensive geographic variation has led to recognition of about fourteen subspecies. Birds in Japan and the adjacent Asian mainland are assigned to the race R. r. japonensis characterized by gray face, dark green upperparts, broad white wing-bar, and slight brownish tinge to their underparts. Note enlarged toe-pads of this species. Canon PowerShot SX50 HS.
