![]() The two adults in this photo show distinct crests. Northern birds such as this (nominate race) average larger but there is much overlap and little genetic divergence between the subspecies. This species is sometimes considered monotypic. The gulls in front are Black-legged Kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla). Canon PowerShot SX50 HS.
