Plum-throated Cotinga (Cotinga maynana) 10 June 2019. Rio Ucayali--Rio Yamallpa, Peru
Plum-throated Cotinga (Cotinga maynana)
This is a specialty of flooded forests and river islands in western Amazonia where they sit quietly in the canopy. This is a female distinguished from the similar female Spangled Cotinga (Cotinga cayana) by its pale eyes and warmer brown overall color. Apparently no vocalizations are known in this species although males wings "whistle" in flight. Canon PowerShot SX60 HS.
