Short-crested Flycatcher (Myiarchus ferox ferox) 15 June 2019. Laguna Viejacocha, Iquitos, Loreto,
Peru
![]() ![]() This species typically forages low along river edges. Flycatchers in the genus Myiarchus are often tricky to identify and are best told apart by voice. Short-crested is further distinguished from the larger Swainson's Flycatcher by Short-crested's all dark bill, darker yellow underparts and lack of dark face mask. Dusky-capped Flycatcher is smaller with darker head and very different voice. This individual seems to have a slight "overbite" in which the hook at the tip of the bill is visible Canon PowerShot SX60 HS. References: Joseph, L. (2019).
