Spix's Night Monkey (Aotus vociferans)
Also known as "Owl Monkeys," these are the only nocturnal New World monkeys. We were lucky to see these during the day. They are also among the few monkey species susceptible to Malaria. They are thus important in medical research. Their presence in the wild is an indicator suggesting that Malaria is not present. In 1983 the single species in this genus (Aotus trivirgatus) was split into ten species. This is A. vociferans restricted to northwestern Amazonian lowland forests.. Canon PowerShot SX60 HS.
