West Peruvian Dove (Zenaida meloda) 7 June 2019. Parque El Olivari, Lima, Peru
![]() This close relative of the White-winged Dove (Zenaida asiatica) is restricted to arid areas along the west coast of Peru and adjacent Ecuador and Chile where it has been expanding its range. In comparison with White-winged Dove, the West Peruvian Dove is more deeply colored overall. More significant is its very different vocalization, "coo-coo-LEE" from which it gets its local name, "Cuculí.".
