White-eared Jacamar (Galbalcyrhynchus leucotis) 11 June 2019. Rio Ucayali--Zapote Creek, Peru
![]() ![]() This species looks more like a Kingfisher than a Jacamar. Unlike a kingfisher, this species forages like a typical Jacamar, flycatching from a perch. The distinct white ear patches distinguish this species from the similar Purus Jacamar (Galbalcyrhynchus purusianus) which replaces it south of the Rio Ucayali. The two are sometimes considered conspecific. Canon PowerShot SX60 HS. References: Tobias, J., Züchner, T., de Melo Júnior, T.A. & Kirwan, G.M. (2019).
